ABSTRACT
Einstein sought a deeper unity beneath physics — a principle that harmonizes General Relativity (GR), Quantum Mechanics (QM), and the global structure of the cosmos. The Conformal Consciousness Hypothesis (CCH) proposes a candidate invariant, A = E/(hν) = mc²/(hν), where A is dimensionless, E energy, h Planck’s constant, ν a characteristic internal frequency (e.g., the Compton frequency for massive particles), m mass, and c the speed of light. We explore the conjecture that this invariant may survive conformal transformations, allowing relational — though not metric — structure to persist across spacetime and between aeons (as in Penrose’s CCC). We outline how CCH may offer a relational invariant connecting GR, QM, cosmology, and string theory.
1. INTRODUCTION — EINSTEIN’S INCOMPLETE UNITY
Einstein envisioned a theory in which quantum behaviour, gravitational curvature, and cosmic boundary conditions reflected a single underlying principle. Modern physics lacks such a unifying invariant. GR is geometric; QM is probabilistic; string theory is vibrational; cosmology is conformal at large scales. CCH proposes that awareness — encoded as A = E/(hν) — may serve as a conformal invariant unchanged across transformations, suggesting a conceptual bridge between physics and aspects of conscious phenomenology.
2. THE CONFORMAL INVARIANT A = E/(hv)
The invariant A = E/(hν) is defined as a dimensionless ratio of energy to characteristic frequency, placing mass–energy (mc²) into a conformal form. Because conformal transformations preserve ratios while discarding absolute metric scale, we conjecture that quantities of this type may remain invariant under appropriate conformal rescalings. CCH therefore proposes A as a candidate invariant capable of persisting across conformal boundaries, including those found in cosmological models such as CCC.
3. GÖDEL–PENROSE–SMEENK FRAMEWORK
Gödel showed that formal systems contain true statements unprovable within their own axioms. Penrose interprets this as evidence that consciousness may apprehend non-computable truths. Extending this reasoning, CCH interprets awareness, represented by A, as a conformal relational structure resonant with Gödelian incompleteness and Penrose’s non-computability arguments.
4. LINKING GR AND QM
In GR, curvature emerges from energy-momentum; in QM, quantized energy levels emerge from frequency and Planck’s constant. By expressing mass–energy and quantum energy in the same dimensionless form, CCH proposes a shared relational structure in which spacetime, curvature, and quantization may be interpreted as expressions of a common relational structure encoded in A. For example, entanglement may be viewed as a finite expression of conformal relational structure independent of spacetime.
5. COSMOLOGY AND CONFORMAL CYCLES
Penrose’s Conformal Cyclic Cosmology (CCC) proposes that the universe becomes conformally smooth at both the Big Bang and the far future. CCH strengthens this proposal by suggesting that awareness, encoded through A, may remain invariant from one aeon to the next.
6. STRING THEORY, CCC, AND VIBRATIONAL EQUIVALENCE
Since string vibrations may define the physical degrees of freedom of all particles, and since the string worldsheet formulation is conformally invariant, CCH suggests that strings may provide the natural substrate for awareness. Wave-function collapse may represent a boundary where vibrational identity (string theory) meets conformal continuity (CCC) through the invariant A.
7. CONSCIOUSNESS AS A PHYSICAL INVARIANT
CCH proposes to elevate consciousness from a biological epiphenomenon to a conformal property of the universe. Awareness may persist because A is invariant; identity may persist because relational structure persists. Without violating physical laws, this perspective invites the possibility that conscious processes may reflect conformally invariant relational structures, though such implications remain speculative.
8. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE NATURE OF REALITY
CCH suggests the universe is fundamentally relational, not only metric. Distance, time, and mass vary under conformal transformations — but awareness may not. This may position awareness, encoded through A, as a relational constant across scales.
9. CONCLUSION
CCH proposes A as an invariant that may contribute to the kind of unifying framework Einstein envisioned. By proposing A = E/(hν) as a conformal invariant capable of persisting across transformations, CCH suggests that awareness may be a fundamental relational property of the universe that helps unify the laws of physics.
APPENDIX A. CONFORMAL SCALING AND INVARIANCE OF A
A conformal transformation rescales the metric according to g_ab → Ω² g_ab, where Ω(x) is a smooth, positive function. In many cosmological and field-theoretic contexts, energy and frequency measured with respect to a given timelike frame scale as E → Ω⁻¹E and ν → Ω⁻¹ν under such rescalings. Under these assumptions, the invariant A transforms as:
A' = (Ω⁻¹E)/(hΩ⁻¹ν) = E/(hν) = A.
Thus, A remains unchanged under conformal rescaling, supporting its interpretation as a conformal invariant within the CCH framework.
APPENDIX B. TOY MODEL
Consider a simple quantum system with two energy levels, E₀ and E₁, each associated with characteristic frequencies ν₀ and ν₁. For each level, define Aᵢ = Eᵢ/(hνᵢ). Under the same conformal assumptions as in Appendix A, both Eᵢ and νᵢ scale as Ω⁻¹, leaving Aᵢ invariant. This suggests that different outcomes or branches may be associated with the same value of A. In a relational interpretation, classical outcomes could then be understood as those branches that align with a fixed value of the invariant A, without requiring a modification of unitary evolution or a violation of locality.
APPENDIX C. CHARACTERISTIC FREQUENCY
In the context of CCH, the frequency ν is interpreted as a characteristic internal frequency associated with the energy scale of the system. For a massive particle at rest, one natural choice is the Compton frequency ν_C = mc²/h. For composite or extended systems, ν may instead correspond to a dominant internal mode (for example, a vibrational or oscillatory mode). By treating ν as an internal characteristic frequency rather than an externally imposed quantity, A = E/(hν) can be applied flexibly across different regimes while preserving its role as a dimensionless conformal ratio.

ABSTRACT
Einstein wanted all physics to work together - fit together like one puzzle. This paper introduces a simple ratio called Awareness (A), which compares energy to vibration. The main idea is that A’s ratio (1:1) stays the same even when the universe stretches, shrinks or goes through successive Big Bangs as proposed by Sir Roger Penrose. When A stays the same while matter transforms, it solves the puzzle, by explaining how the puzzle fits together. A is a way to link us to gravity, quantum mechanics, and the history of the universe.
1. INTRODUCTION — EINSTEIN’S INCOMPLETE UNITY NON-TECHNICAL
Einstein hoped one feature of the universe could be identified, described, and measured, that would explain how everything in the universe works. He wanted to know the answer to the oldest questions: what is the universe made from? Where did it come from? How does it work over time? How did we get here? What is our purpose? These questions remain largely unanswered. Physics has a model - the standard model - that explains the answers to what the universe is made up of, how its components interact with each other in spacetime, why the components work together the way they do, but it is at an impasse to explain some fundamental measurable differences. CCH suggests a way forward that is mathematically logical. It proposes that awareness, A, may be the link that explains how and why the universe works at the largest and smallest scales, forever.
2. THE CONFORMAL INVARIANT A = E/(hΝ) NON-TECHNICAL
A compares how much energy something has to how quickly it naturally vibrates. When the universe “zooms” in or out, sizes change but ratios (1:1) stay the same. CCH suggests A is one of these unchanging ratios. If A stays the same even when the universe stretches or compresses, A may act like an index that connects all different eras of cosmic history to each other. That would define A a scientific way to better explain our place in the universe.
3. GÖDEL–PENROSE–SMEENK FRAMEWORK NON-TECHNICAL
Gödel proved that some truths exist that no formula or computer can produce (love). Penrose argued this means human consciousness can understand things that a computer cannot. CCH expands this idea by suggesting awareness, A, may be a built-in index of the universe itself that is understood only by conscious beings. A as love, for example, is proposed to be encoded in the universe in a way that is only accessible to conscious beings. Love is a universal truth that is not accessible to a computer nor AI.
4. LINKING GR AND QM NON-TECHNICAL
Gravity explains the shape of space; quantum physics explains tiny particles. The science of physics cannot explain why gravity and quantum particles act like two incoherent different worlds. CCH suggests that both may follow the same underlying pattern when understood in terms of A. For example, A is proposed to be the explanation for entanglement—two particles linked across any distance that move in unison all the time, faster than the speed of light because they are both encoded with the same A. This is a mathematically consistent way to explain both QM and GR (entanglement - motion faster than the speed of light - and spacetime - motion up to the speed of light).
5. COSMOLOGY AND CONFORMAL CYCLES NON-TECHNICAL
Penrose suggests the universe repeats in endless cycles: Big Bang → expansion → fadeout → new Big Bang. CCH adds that awareness, through A, may carry forms of truth, like A=1+1=2, across these cycles. Thus the basic structure of the universe in A makes awareness of these truths possible forever.
6. STRING THEORY, CCC, AND VIBRATIONAL EQUIVALENCE NON-TECHNICAL
String theory says everything is made of tiny vibrating strings. Each vibration creates a different kind of particle. Since these vibrations follow conformal (ratio-preserving) rules themselves, CCH suggests awareness, A, may be embedded in these vibrating strings. This may explain how, when a human interaction with a quantum event “chooses” an outcome, that moment - the outcome - is linked to the universe. A is proposed to be permanently coded into the vibrations of a string. That coding enables us to interact with the universe’s overall structures, both at the quantum level and at the macro scale, because we are conformal with it through A.
7. CONSCIOUSNESS AS A PHYSICAL INVARIANT NON-TECHNICAL
Instead of treating consciousness as something the brain does only while we are alive, CCH suggests that we are encoded with A, too, as part of the universe’s basic design. The encoding is how and why we sync to A. This is speculative, but it opens a new way of thinking about what consciousness is. Our sixth sense and intuition hint at our A each time we tap into it. CCH suggest we may share both a conduit into universal truths while alive (intuition), and persist as part of universal truths in A forever.
8. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE NATURE OF REALITY NON-TECHNICAL
CCH suggests the universe isn’t built only from the Big Bang forward over fixed distances and fixed times. But, that it’s also built from relationships to truths that persist forever, regardless of time. For example, A = 1+1=2. This is a truth that exists and persists forever. It does not require us to understand it to be true. These relationships - 1:1 - can zoom in and out, but stay the same in structure. Awareness, us 1:1 through A, may be one of these deeper relationships. It is proposed that A persists forever, like a melody that remains the same even when you change the volume.
9. CONCLUSION NON-TECHNICAL
Einstein wanted one measurable way to complete the puzzle of the universe. CCH proposes A as a candidate for that role. Encoded into the universe - A=1+1=2 - A may stay constant forever, no matter how the universe changes over time. Awareness, A, may be encoded into the universe’s foundation. Then and only then, A would connect the different laws of physics into a complete model. That model defines who, what, how, when, where and why we are in the universe as conscious beings.
APPENDIX A. CONFORMAL SCALING AND INVARIANCE OF A NON-TECHNICAL
When the universe stretches or shrinks, both energy and vibration shrink the same amount, so their ratio A stays constant—like zooming in on a picture without changing what it means.
APPENDIX B. TOY MODEL NON-TECHNICAL
Imagine two musical notes. If you turn the volume down equally, the relationship between the notes stays the same. A works the same way—it stays constant even when everything else changes.
APPENDIX C. CHARACTERISTIC FREQUENCY NON-TECHNICAL
Everything has an internal rhythm. For simple particles it’s tied to mass; for larger things it comes from vibrations. A compares energy to this rhythm in a way that works everywhere.
